“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” — Ephesians 6:11–12
Paul commands believers to put on the whole armor of God. He does not tell us to take up part of it, choose what seems useful, or trust whatever strength we already have. The command is complete because the danger is real.
A soldier who leaves off part of his armor leaves himself exposed. In the same way, the Christian must not be careless in spiritual matters. Truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the gospel of peace, the Word of God, and prayer are not decorations. They are God’s provision for standing firm.
Verse 12 reminds us why this armor is necessary. Our true battle is not against flesh and blood. People may oppose, wound, tempt, or discourage us, but the deeper conflict is spiritual. We wrestle against powers of darkness that are stronger than human wisdom and more dangerous than ordinary trouble.
That is why the armor must be God’s armor. Human strength cannot win a spiritual battle. But God has not left His people defenseless. In Christ, we are given what we need to stand.
The armor of God is not optional. It is essential. Without it, we are exposed. With it, we can stand firm, fully protected by the Lord who equips His people for the battle before them.
